How to prune camellia

Pruning methods

There are many ways to prune camellia, and pruning needs to be done according to different varieties. For varieties like Hong Luzhen and Dongfang Liang, because they grow relatively fast and their plants usually grow relatively upright, we need to start pruning from the top, cutting off about one-third of the plant's height, and also cutting off some of the branches in the middle that easily block the light, and appropriately cut off more of the faster-growing branches, and cut less or no branches off the slower-growing ones.

Leaf removal

After pruning, the camellia should also be picked accordingly, which is conducive to its better growth. After our careful pruning, the camellia grows faster in the second year, and its shape after growth is very beautiful.

Pruning other types of camellia

There are also some varieties of camellia that grow slowly but have better shapes, such as the Peony and the Yuanyang Fengkou, which are all more beautiful camellia varieties. At this time, we just need to prune the branches that grow faster to make it look comfortable, and keep the branches of the same length. During the growth period, you should also pay attention to pruning diseased branches in time. In order to ensure good growth order, you can remove the buds on the top of the unpruned branches and let them branch out in all directions to increase their ornamental value. There is also a kind of five-color camellia, its branches are soft and the crown is large. At this time, you only need to cut off the side branches below the main trunk branches, and then prune the crown appropriately until it looks beautiful.
