When should Daya oranges be bagged?

The role of bagging for Daya oranges

Because Daya mandarin oranges are a late-ripening variety, they will easily be frostbitten if they are not bagged. Completing the bagging early can prevent frost in advance, and it can also effectively prevent diseases and pests, and can promote color change and sugar content earlier.

Time for bagging Daya oranges

The bagging time for Daya oranges is from late October to mid-to-late November every year, and before the frost season. Bagging should be done during clear and dry weather, and avoid bagging in the morning or after rain when the surface is wet.

Most of the bagging of Daya citrus trees is completed at the end of October every year. In Sichuan, generally one area has one bagging time, and all the bagging is completed in the same batch. Completing the bagging early can prevent frost in advance.

How to bag Daya oranges

Choosing bags : When bagging citrus fruits, choose white single-layer translucent paper bags. The paper bags are breathable but not water-permeable, do not absorb water, will not adhere to the fruit surface after rain, and should have a soft iron wire at one end.

Operation : Select medium-sized Daya oranges with healthy fruit surface and no diseases, insect pests or mechanical injuries for bagging. The diameter of the medium-sized Daya oranges is 16.8-20.5 cm. When bagging, avoid putting the leaves into the paper bag and avoid damage to the fruit caused by human factors. After bagging, use a soft iron wire at one end of the paper bag to seal it tightly to prevent water and insects from entering.

Spraying pesticides : Daya citrus needs to be sprayed with pesticides 5-15 days before bagging. Use a mixture of mancozeb, bromothionil, nisolan and avermectin to spray the Daya citrus trees, which can effectively prevent and control diseases and pests.
