Where do chive seeds come from? There are many varieties of chives. Some of them have seeds that are easy to produce, while others have basically no seeds and can only reproduce asexually. What do chive seeds look like? After the chives are ripe, they do not need to be harvested. If you continue to plant them, something shaped like an oval grape will grow on them, with many small grains inside. After a while, the small things inside will turn black, which are the seeds of the chives. Chive Seed DispersalChive seeds are spread by insects and wind, and in the spring of the following year, chive leaves will grow first, followed by buds, flowering, pollination, and then seeds. How to save chive seedsChive seeds are very difficult to preserve. They can only be stored under refrigeration for a maximum of one year. Over time, the germination rate will drop sharply until no seeds germinate. Therefore, chive seeds must be collected reasonably and used in a timely manner. Chive Seed Planting1. Sowing time Chive seeds are suitable for sowing in spring and autumn, the specific time is from March to April in spring, and from September to October in autumn. The temperature suitable for germination is between thirteen and twenty degrees. 2. Seedling cultivation If chives are sown in autumn, dry seeds can be used. Soaking and disinfecting the seeds before sowing can increase the germination rate, ensure uniform growth of seedlings, and reduce the occurrence of diseases and pests. During spring sowing, the soil is relatively dry, so wet sowing can be carried out to advance germination. First, soak the seeds in warm water, scrub them, remove the dead seeds, soak them for 12-24 hours, then place them in an environment of 15 to 20 degrees to germinate for 2-3 days, and sow them when most of the seeds turn white. 3. Watering Water the chives once 2 to 3 days before transplanting. Because the chive seeds are small and have a weak ability to break through the soil, only by keeping the soil slightly moist can normal germination be maintained. 4. Plant onions in pots If you plant onions in pots, water them about 2.5 cm deep with water every week throughout the growing season. In about 20-30 days, the onions will grow to 15-20 cm, and then they can be eaten. |
