How and when to plant celery

Celery planting time and month

Choose celery varieties according to the temperature of the planting site. In spring and summer, the temperature is higher, so you can choose heat-resistant varieties. In autumn and winter, the temperature is lower, so you need to choose cold-resistant varieties. For seedling cultivation, choose fertile and loose soil with strong water and fertilizer retention capacity as the seedbed, deep plow and apply fertilizer, prepare the land and make ridges, water in advance, and then sow.

When to Plant Celery in Spring

The sowing time of spring celery is January in the north. The seedling raising time is from January to March, and the transplanting time is from March to April. It can be harvested in June. If sowing is too early, the low temperature will have a certain impact on the celery. If there are too many days of low temperature, it will affect the yield and quality.

When to plant celery in summer

The temperature is higher in summer, so dry seeds are usually sown directly for seedling cultivation. After sowing, shade materials need to be covered. After the seedlings emerge, the shade should be gradually reduced. The best planting time is May-June.

When to plant celery in fall

Autumn celery is sown from June to July in the north, transplanted from August to September, and harvested from October to December. It can be planted later in the south. When choosing to plant, you should make choices based on local market demand and your own planting techniques.

When to plant celery in winter

The temperature is lower in winter, so celery must be planted in places with higher temperatures. In the south, it can be sown outdoors from September to November, and can be harvested in April of the following year. In the north, where the temperature is lower, celery must be planted in greenhouses.

Celery planting methods and steps

Celery can be planted all year round. If the temperature is low, the celery seeds need to be soaked in water for 12-24 hours, and the germination temperature is 15-20 degrees. After sowing, cover with 1 cm of fine sand or 0.5 cm of fine wet soil, and cover with a film to keep moisture and heat. The soil temperature is required to be 15-20 degrees.

If the temperature is high, you can carry out dry seed direct seeding and take shade measures. After the seedlings emerge, gradually reduce the shade and control the watering. Water slowly and do not irrigate with large amounts of water. Thin out the seedlings when 2-3 leaves appear. After that, the soil will be dry and wet. When 3 leaves and 1 heart or 4 leaves and 1 heart appear, they can be transplanted.
