Family farming methods

Potting Soil Selection

For growing Agapanthus, it is suitable to mix 3 parts of garden soil, 1 part each of rice husk ash and compost.

Water and fertilizer management

Watering: Water to keep the soil moist, and water when the soil is dry. In summer, pay special attention to ensuring that the soil is given sufficient water, and spray water on the plants and the surrounding environment frequently to increase humidity and reduce temperature. In winter, you should pay attention to controlling watering, just keep the soil in the pot slightly moist, and don't water too much.

Fertilization: Stop watering one day before fertilizing to allow the potting soil to absorb water; spray the leaves with clean water after fertilizing. It is better to use manure, cake fertilizer and chemical compound fertilizer alternately, once every 10-15 days. For the divided seedlings, sufficient fertilizer and water should be given to make them bloom as soon as possible. After flowering, remove the remaining flowers and apply fertilizer in time.

Temperature and light requirements

Temperature: It likes warmth and has a certain degree of cold resistance. In the southern region, it can overwinter in the open field with a little covering. In the northern region, it needs to be placed in a greenhouse with a temperature not lower than 5℃ in winter.

Light: It is best to place it in a semi-shaded and humid place. From June to September, be careful not to expose it to direct sunlight to avoid burning the leaves.

Reproduction method

Agapanthus can be propagated by sowing and division. But it takes a very long time for the seedlings to bloom. How long is it? About 5 years... So flower lovers should think carefully when breeding agapanthus.

Precautions for domestication

Plastic pruning

The agapanthus in the wild can grow well and self-sufficiency, but for the agapanthus grown at home, you still need to pay attention to the shape.

You should cut off the weak leaves in time, remove the yellow and dead leaves, and leave the leaves that are growing well. This will not only make the plant look beautiful, but also allow the flowers to bloom more.

Common diseases

There are two main common diseases of Agapanthus: leaf spot and red spot. Leaf spot disease can be controlled by spraying 1000 times diluted 70% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder. When erythema disease occurs, spray 600 times diluted Benomyl solution once, the effect is very good.
