How to divide Anthurium

How to divide Anthurium

Anthurium division time

Anthurium is a plant of the Araceae family and the genus Anthurium. It is suitable for division in spring and autumn. It cannot be done during the high temperatures in summer and low temperatures in winter, mainly because the temperature is not suitable for rooting.

Anthurium division propagation method

1. Select side buds: The side buds used for division should be easier to separate from the mother plant and grow more robustly. It is best to ensure that there are two roots on them. If the side buds will damage the mother plant, do not separate them, otherwise it will be detrimental to the growth of the mother plant.

2. Rooting in transplanted plants: After separating the lateral buds, they need to be disinfected. They can be soaked in potassium permanganate solution and then placed in a cool place to promote root growth. They can be planted after taking root. The root system should be flat. Do not water them immediately after planting. Water them after 2 days or apply a thin fertilizer solution.

Steps to divide Anthurium

When dividing anthurium, the mother plant must not be injured, and side buds that are too large, too close, or too weak cannot be separated. It is mainly necessary to select side buds that are easy to separate and have at least two main root systems.

When dividing the plant, use even force with your hands to separate the side buds from the mother plant. If it is difficult to separate, use a sterilized blade to cut at the bud eye. After the wound is slightly dry, transplant it in a cool place to make it take root faster. Be careful not to water it in a hurry.

Just bought Anthurium division

When dividing the newly bought anthurium, you should first take out the entire plant with soil, then clean it. If it can be clearly divided into two plants, you can separate them directly. If they are densely packed, you can selectively separate them. Generally, the plants are divided according to the main stem of the plant. If you are not sure, it is recommended to divide according to the stem of the plant. Be careful not to damage the roots when dividing.
