How to divide the weeping angel

Time for division of Dripping Guanyin

The weeping angel is a plant of the Araceae family and the genus Alocasia. The weeping angel includes species such as Alocasia, red wild Alocasia, and velvet-leaved Alocasia. Division can be carried out in spring, summer, and autumn, mainly in March, June, and October.

Method of propagation of dripping Guanyin by division

Before dividing the weeping angel, you need to remove the plant from the pot, use a knife to cut off the small plants that sprout next to the tuber, and place them in a cool place to dry. After the plants are dried, you can prepare the soil, plant the small weeping angel plants in the pots, cover them with soil and compact them.

Steps for dividing the weeping angel

The division propagation of the weeping angel is not limited by time or season and can be carried out at any time, and the survival rate of division propagation is relatively high.

1. Remove from the flowerpot: Before dividing the weeping angel, you can stop watering so that the plant can be removed from the pot faster. Use a large blade to rotate around the flowerpot to loosen the soil appropriately, and then gently take the plant out of the pot.

2. Separate small plants: After the weeping angel grows to maturity, small plants with leaves will sprout next to the tuber, which can be used for reproduction. Because the juice of the weeping angel plant is poisonous, you need to put on gloves and use a sterilized knife to cut the small plants. After cutting, place them in a cool place to dry to ensure that juice no longer drips from the cut.

3. Planting in pots: After the plants have been dried in the sun, you can prepare the soil and plant the small plants of the weeping angel in the pots. Cover them with a thin layer of soil and compact them. Water them thoroughly immediately after potting them and place them in a cool place with scattered light.

The weeping angel plant can be repotted once every spring, and the soil in the pot should be loosened once a month to maintain good soil permeability. Fertilizer and water should not be poured into the leaf sheaths, otherwise it will cause the plant to rot. Adding an appropriate amount of ferrous sulfate can make the leaves greener. When the temperature is below 15 degrees, stop fertilizing and reduce the amount of watering. Cut off the dry, aged or yellowed leaves in time.
