Tips on how to grow Clivia

The maintenance of Clivia seems complicated, but it is actually simple. Recently, many flower lovers have consulted me about the problem of Clivia root rot. In fact, you can easily deal with it by mastering a few key techniques. Let’s learn some tips on how to grow Clivia.

1. Choose a suitable flower pot

Clivia has a well-developed root system and requires good air permeability. Choose ceramic or porous pots, and avoid using pots that are too tall or too large. Replace the potting soil every 1 to 2 years to promote healthy root growth.

2. Prepare the right soil

The fleshy roots of Clivia require loose, well-drained soil. It is recommended to use fermented peanut shells , bark and fine expanded clay, mixed in a 1:1 ratio, and add slow-release fertilizer . You can also choose special soil for orchids or fermented leaf mold.

3. Reasonable placement

Avoid placing the pot directly on the ground to reduce moisture in the bottom soil. Place the Clivia on a flower stand or tall pot, ensure ventilation at the bottom, and speed up the drying of the soil.

4. Correct watering method

Avoid watering directly from the top to prevent water accumulation and rot in the center of the leaves. Water should be poured along the edge of the pot, and the pot should be rotated several times to ensure that the soil is evenly moist.

5. Reasonable fertilization

The root absorption capacity of Clivia is limited, so concentrated fertilizers should be avoided. Through low-concentration, high-frequency fertilization, we promote root health and ensure vigorous plant growth.

If you do the above five points well, your Clivia will not only avoid root rot, but also thrive, with thick leaves and gorgeous flowers.
