How to divide the miniature coconut

Time for dividing the miniature coconut

The types of miniature coconuts include the beautiful bamboo coconut, miniature bamboo, dwarf coconut, dwarf palm, living room palm, happy palm, miniature coconut sunflower, and miniature palm. They are plants of the genus Bamboo Palm in the family Arecaceae.

It is suitable to divide the miniature coconut palm in spring or autumn, because the plants grow fast during these two periods and the divided plants are easier to survive. If you want to divide the buds for planting, it is recommended to do it in late winter and early spring.

Pocket coconut palm division propagation method

The miniature coconut palm will grow new fleshy leaves in spring, which will swell and burst the old leaves. The old leaves will then fall off and the new leaves will grow vigorously. In summer, they will shrink and crack again, and 2-3 new small plants will grow from the gaps. The young plants can be divided and planted by cutting them from the base.

Steps to divide the miniature coconut

1. Find the small plants that sprout around the miniature coconut palm, then use sterilized scissors to separate them and trim their roots, leaving the roots about one centimeter long.

2. Prepare a pot of suitable size and place a loose, fertile and well-drained substrate in the pot in advance, and cover it with a layer of diatomaceous earth. This will make it both clean and beautiful.

3. After filling in the substrate, use tools to poke small holes on it, and then plant the small plants one by one. After planting, you can water them a little to ensure they are moist, and place them in a cool, well-ventilated place without strong light.

Miniature coconut plant maintenance

1. Light: The miniature coconut palm is suitable for growing in a semi-shaded environment and cannot withstand exposure to strong light. However, if it does not see sunlight for a long time, the plant will grow poorly, so it is best to place it in a bright place near the window indoors.

2. Temperature: The miniature coconut palm likes a warm environment. The suitable growth temperature is between 18-24 degrees. It will enter a dormant state below 13 degrees. It is best not to be below 10 degrees Celsius in winter.

3. Water: The miniature coconut palm likes a humid environment. The soil needs to be kept moist during the growth period, but not too wet. The substrate needs to be kept slightly dry during the dormant period. In addition, the miniature coconut palm likes high air humidity. If it is too dry, spray water frequently.
