How to prune taro

When to prune taro

1. It is more suitable to prune the Alocasia in spring and summer. Do not prune it heavily in winter. In addition, it should be pruned when there are yellow leaves or dead leaves. It is only necessary to prune 3-5 times a year. Remember not to prune every day, and do not prune it heavily frequently, otherwise it will be detrimental to its growth.

2. When cutting taro, cut 15-20 cm cuttings, prepare breathable soil, and the cutting depth should be about 5 cm. Water it after insertion to keep it moist. Place it in a cool environment for maintenance, and spray water on the soil from time to time.

Pruning branches and leaves of taro

When the branches of the Alocasia bonsai grow too vigorously and become too long, they can be pruned appropriately according to the bonsai shape. They can be pruned into a cloud shape, or they can be pruned into a shape that is slightly higher in the middle and has an outer contour like a melon seed.

Pruning steps:

1: Pinching: Pinching can inhibit the rapid growth of the taro. If you find many tender tips on the branches, you should pick them off in time to prevent them from growing into new branches.

2: Bud picking: Many unnecessary new buds will grow at the base of the branches of the taro. In order to avoid the consumption of nutrients of the plant, some of the new buds need to be properly picked.

3: Picking leaves: When the new leaves of the Alocasia esculenta are germinating, if there are too many new leaves, the overall appearance of the plant will be affected and its ornamental value will be affected. Therefore, when the new leaves are still small, pick some of them off appropriately.

Tips for pruning taro

There are five common techniques for pruning taro, namely pinching, bud picking, leaf picking, shaping and pruning. Different techniques are used in different growth stages, such as pinching in the seedling stage, bud picking and leaf picking in the growth stage.

Prune the old branches, broken branches and densely growing branches of the Alocasia esculenta to ensure that the branches and leaves have sufficient space to grow normally. If there are longer branches, they also need to be pruned to enhance the plant's ornamental value and promote its growth.

Tips for pruning taro

Before pruning the Alocasia cinerea, you should disinfect the scissors with alcohol. Try to cut at an angle when pruning. You can apply wood ash on the wound. Do not move the main branches unless the main trunk has diseased branches and leaves or completely old leaves.
