How to make gladiolus bloom all year round

Four seasons of flowering

Select Variety

Gladiolus is divided into two varieties: spring-flowering and summer-flowering, and different varieties have different growth cycles. Early-maturing varieties bloom in 50 to 60 days, mid-maturing varieties bloom in 65 to 80 days, and late-maturing varieties bloom in 80 to 120 days.

Controlling temperature

Gladiolus prefers long days, and will bloom early in a sunny environment (more than 14 hours of light) with suitable temperatures. Adjusting the lighting time and temperature can effectively regulate the flowering time of gladiolus.

Flowering period regulation

Early flowering

Gladiolus has a dormant period of 2 to 3 months every year, and will not grow even if the environment is suitable. If you want it to bloom early, you have to break its dormancy period. Store the bulbs at 0-4°C for 30-50 days, or soak them in 39°C water for 2 weeks to break dormancy. With methods like this, as long as you let the bulbs go dormant in advance, they will bloom earlier than ordinary bulbs after being planted.

Delayed flowering

Simple, to delay flowering, let the bulbs sleep a little longer and place them in a dry and low-temperature environment. Before you plan to flower, increase the temperature and humidity to break dormancy. The rest is the same as the method of promoting flowering, just maintain it normally.

But it should be noted that repeated disturbance of the bulbs will accelerate their degeneration, so be careful to preserve the seeds. Moreover, flowering promotion and flowering delay can be used alternately to ensure the healthy growth of bulbs.
