Lilies prefer a cool, humid environment with plenty of sunlight. They cannot tolerate direct sunlight. A slightly shaded environment is more suitable for lilies. They are relatively cold-resistant and suitable for planting in sandy loam with deep soil, fertile and loose soil and good drainage.

Lilies are mainly produced in Hunan, Sichuan, Henan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and other places. They are cultivated all over the country, and there are wild resources in a few areas. The largest lily producing area is Xiluo Township, Longshan County, Hunan Province, also known as the Hometown of Lilies. The lilies here are of the best quality.

Lily growing conditions

The growing environment of lilies needs to be cool to a certain extent, and the temperature cannot be too high. High temperature will cause the plant to grow poorly. It is cold-resistant, but it also needs proper protection during the winter. The soil environment should be kept slightly moist, because the plant is very afraid of waterlogging, so there must be no accumulation of water in the soil. In addition, there must be good ventilation and it should not be too stuffy.

Lily growth temperature

The growth temperature of lily is between 13-17℃. After it grows into seedlings, the temperature should not be lower than 11℃, otherwise its growth will be restricted. When it blooms, the temperature should be around 24-28℃ so that it can bloom better. If the temperature is higher than 33℃, it will dry up and turn yellow, and in severe cases it will wither and die.

Lily growth process

After the lily bulbs are planted, small buds will soon grow out, and leaves will grow out after 3 days. In the southern regions, water them every day. After 10 days, the plants will grow to a height of 10 cm, and then small flower buds will grow out. After a week of careful care, the flowers of the plants will slowly bloom. At this time, you can put them in the sun. After about 30 days, all the flowers will bloom.

Lily planting time and method

1. Time: The best time to plant lilies is from July to September, but it also needs to be slightly adjusted according to the climate of the planting area. In autumn, the temperature at this time is around 16-24℃, which is very conducive to its growth.

2. Method: Select healthy bulbs without diseases. If there are rotten parts at the roots or new roots have grown, soak them in a sterilization solution for 20 minutes and rinse them with clean water after taking them out.

3. Planting: Plant the processed bulbs in loose soil. The part above the bud tip should be buried in the soil so that it is in full contact with the soil. After planting, water it appropriately according to the soil conditions to keep the soil moist.

4. Tips: When planting lily bulbs, there should be a certain distance between the bulbs. They cannot be placed too close, which is not good for their growth. Generally, one bulb is planted in each pot.
