Hami melon's growing environment and local conditions

Hami melon growing environment and conditions

Hami melon prefers an environment with sufficient light and large temperature differences. It can carry out photosynthesis during the day and consumes less respiration at night, which is conducive to the precipitation of sugar. The flesh comes in many varieties, such as green, white, and orange. It is grown in Hami, Turpan, Shanshan and other places in Xinjiang, and is widely cultivated throughout China.

Hami melon growing conditions

A suitable environment is an important factor for the growth, development and sugar accumulation of Hami melon. Rukqin is backed by the barren Huoyan Mountain in the north and faces the Kumtag Desert in the south. The special natural environment makes its summer hot and dry, with little rain, long sunshine hours and a large temperature difference between day and night, which is very suitable for the special requirements of Hami melon for the ecological environment.

Hami melon growth temperature

Hami melon likes a warm environment. The suitable temperature for germination is 28-30℃. It starts to germinate 24 hours in an environment with a minimum temperature of 15℃ and a maximum temperature of 30℃. The most suitable growth temperature in the seedling stage is 25-30 degrees. It will stop growing at below 13 degrees or above 40 degrees. The most suitable temperature during the flowering and fruiting period is 25-30 degrees, and 18-30 degrees is the most suitable temperature during the fruit expansion period.

The growth process of cantaloupe

The growth of Hami melon mainly includes the seedling stage, growth stage, flowering stage, fruiting stage and maturity stage. Sufficient water and nutrients should be provided during the seedling stage and growth stage to ensure normal growth during the flowering and fruiting stages. Flowers need to be thinned and fertilizer should be supplemented during the flowering stage, water should be applied frequently in the early stage of fruiting, and the moisture content of the soil should be reduced when it is about to mature.

Hami melon planting time and method

Hami melons are usually planted in spring from January to February. Renovate the soil in advance, apply sufficient base fertilizer, dig planting holes, sow 2 or 3 seeds in each planting hole, cover them with a layer of soil, and water them with plenty of water. If they are potted, cover them with plastic film to keep them warm and keep them in a warm place. When the seedlings grow to 5 or 6 cm, they can be transplanted and planted.
