The growth environment and local conditions of banyan trees

Banyan tree growth environment and conditions

Banyan trees are distributed in Taiwan, Zhejiang (southern part), Fujian, Guangdong (and coastal islands), Guangxi, Hubei, Guizhou, and Yunnan (174-1240 meters above sea level) in China. They are also planted in Sri Lanka, India, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Japan (Ryukyu and Kyushu).

Banyan Tree Growing Conditions

Banyan trees like a humid environment so that they can quickly grow aerial roots, greatly improving their ornamental value. They are not cold-resistant and need to be kept warm in winter. They are not very demanding on the soil and can grow in slightly acidic and slightly alkaline soils. They are not resistant to exposure to strong sunlight.

Banyan tree growth temperature

When growing a banyan tree in a potted plant, the temperature needs to be controlled at around 20-30℃ so that it can grow better. It is a plant that likes warmth, so it is not cold-resistant. You must pay attention to keeping warm in winter.

The growth process of banyan tree

From the moment the banyan tree sprouts, it will begin to grow nutritional organs such as roots, stems, and leaves. After sprouting, the radicle will penetrate into the soil to form a taproot. Then the hypocotyl will gradually elongate, and the cotyledons and plumule will emerge from the ground to form the leaves of the plant.

Banyan tree planting time and method

Banyan trees are usually planted in spring from April to May and can be maintained in shallow purple clay pots, which makes them more ornamental. If a large number of seedlings are grown in South China and Southwest China, young branch cuttings can be carried out during the rainy season, and the survival rate can reach over 95%.

In the north, you can cut one-year-old full and plump branches in May and plant them in flower pots, wooden boxes or seedbeds. Cut the branches into sections of 3, trim the leaves at the lower part, insert them into the soil, and maintain them in semi-shaded place. Spray water 1-2 times a day to increase the air humidity. Pay attention to wind protection, and it will take root after 20 days.
