Mesosulfuron-methyl is a highly effective herbicide of the sulfonylurea type, mainly used to control some difficult-to-eradicate herbaceous weeds and some weeds in crop fields, such as crabgrass and wheat grass, and is widely used in farmland. So how should this herbicide be used specifically? What are the precautions? Let’s learn more about it below. How to use Mesosulfuron herbicide 1. Mechanism of action Mesosulfuron is a sulfonylurea herbicide suitable for use in soft and semi-hard winter wheat varieties. It is mainly absorbed through the stems and leaves of plants, conducted through the phloem and xylem, and a small amount is absorbed through the soil, inhibiting the activity of acetolactate synthase in sensitive plants, resulting in the blockage of the synthesis of branched-chain amino acids, thereby inhibiting cell division and causing the death of sensitive plants. Generally, the absorption of sensitive weeds reaches its peak 2-4 hours after application, stops growing after 2 days, leaves begin to turn yellow after 4-7 days, followed by dead spots, and die after 2-4 weeks. Safeners can promote their rapid decomposition in crops without affecting their degradation in target weeds, thereby achieving the purpose of killing weeds and protecting crops. 2. Usage and Dosage When applying pesticides in the field, it should be done when the wheat is in the 3-6 leaf stage and the Poaceae weeds are basically all out. Apply pesticides as early as possible when they are in the 3-5 leaf stage. Generally, 20 ml of 30 g/L methyl disulfone oil suspension per mu can achieve ideal prevention effects. The weeds in the field are mainly resistant weeds such as wheatgrass and foxtail millet. The dosage can be appropriately increased to 25-30 ml per mu. Mesosulfuron herbicide precautions 1. It is recommended to use fan-shaped spray heads for spraying. The amount of pesticide sprayed in the field should be uniform and consistent. It is strictly prohibited to "spray multiple places with multiple grasses", spray repeatedly, and miss spraying. 2. In principle, it is not recommended to mix methyl disulfone with any other herbicides, pesticides , foliar fertilizers , etc. If you want to control broad-leaved weeds in wheat fields, you can spray them separately. 3. The secondary dilution method must be adopted, that is, first dilute and mix with a small amount of water, then pour it into the bucket, add enough water, mix evenly and then spray. When spraying methyl disulfone, dilute the methyl disulfone first, then add the adjuvant , stir well and then spray. 4. It is advisable to spray the pesticide during the period of high temperature at noon on sunny days. Avoid strong cooling or freezing weather within 3 days after spraying, and avoid water accumulation in the fields, otherwise pesticide damage is likely to occur. Uneven spraying and environmental conditions such as frost, waterlogging, and overdose can easily cause phytotoxicity to wheat, especially in some sensitive wheat varieties. In general, as a highly effective and low-toxic herbicide, mesosulfuron plays an important role in modern agricultural production. However, only by following the relevant safety operating procedures of the drug can we ensure food security and ecological safety.
