Ginger's growing environment and local conditions

Ginger Growth Environment and Conditions

Ginger originally grows in tropical regions of Southeast Asia. It prefers warm environments and is not cold-resistant. It is distributed in central and eastern China, southeastern China, and southwestern China. It is widely cultivated in Laifeng, Tongshan, Yangxin, Echeng, Xianning, Tongling, Changyi in Shandong Province, and Anqiu.

Ginger Growing Conditions

Ginger prefers a warm and humid environment, is not resistant to direct sunlight, waterlogging, and cold. It is suitable for cultivation on slopes and slightly shady plots. It is best planted in deep, loose, fertile, well-drained sandy loam.

Ginger growth temperature

Ginger likes a warm environment and the suitable growth temperature is 25-28 degrees. If the temperature is below 20 degrees, it will germinate slowly. The plant will wither in frosty weather, and the rhizomes affected by frost will lose the ability to grow.

Ginger growth process

The growth process of ginger mainly goes through the ginger germination period, ginger seedling period, ginger vigorous growth period and ginger rhizome dormancy period. The germination period takes 35 to 45 days, and the seedling period takes 65 to 70 days. It is a warm-loving crop, not resistant to cold and frost, and cannot overwinter in the open field in winter.

Ginger planting time and method

Planting time: The time of ginger planting is closely related to the temperature of the planting site. In Hunan, Wuhan and other places, it is usually planted in spring from April to May, while in the river valleys of northwest and southwest China, it is usually planted in March. The planting time is determined according to the temperature changes in the area.

Planting method : When sowing ginger, soak the ginger pieces for ten minutes, mix them with sand, place them in a smaller space and seal them with plastic film. Sow them 5 days later with a plant spacing of 30 cm and a row spacing of 40 cm. Place the sprouting side facing up, then cover with a thin layer of soil and finally cover it with a layer of straw.
