1. Seed treatment

The seed coat of water lily is very thick, which will affect germination, so in order to ensure smooth germination, the seeds often need to be pre-treated. The seeds have a convex point on one end and a concave point on the other end. The pretreatment is to peel the concave end. Be careful not to damage the kernel inside, and don't completely shell it. You can use a knife to cut off a small piece of the seed coat. Soak the pretreated seeds in clean water until the water just covers the seeds. Change the water every 1 to 2 days. If you use tap water, it is best to let it dry before use. After roots emerge, move them into containers for planting.

2. Transplanting into pots

During the process of transplanting hydroponic bowl lotus, press the thin roots of the small lotus seedlings into the soil, insert several plants evenly, and then add appropriate amount of water to ensure that they do not exceed the small lotus leaves. After transplanting the hydroponic bowl lotus into a pot, choose loose and fertile soil with good air permeability and drainage. You can use garden soil or leaf mold.

3. Adequate lighting

The growth of bowl lotus cannot be separated from sufficient light. When cared for at home, it needs to be placed on a sunny balcony or window and receive no less than 4 hours of sunlight every day. Note that too little light is not conducive to the formation of flower buds. The strong light around noon in summer should be blocked to prevent the leaves and petals from burning.

4. Suitable temperature

The suitable growth temperature for bowl lotus is 15℃-30℃. The temperature is more suitable in spring and autumn, but the temperature is too high in summer, so you should pay attention to sun protection. The temperature is low in winter and should not be lower than 5 degrees.

5. Supplement nutrients

Appropriate fertilizers can also be used for hydroponic bowl lotus. Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizers are more suitable, but the concentration should not be too high. It is more appropriate to apply it after dilution. It is best to apply fertilizer once every half a month.

6. Water requirements

The water demand of water lily needs to be met. You can water it lightly every day or just spray water on the leaves.

7. Remove the leaves

When the leaves of the water lily grow too densely, you can remove some of them appropriately to facilitate ventilation and light transmission, and also help flowering.

8. Change the soil

Generally, after one year of cultivation, the nutrients in the substrate of the bowl lotus decrease and the underground rhizomes become dense. At this time, the soil should be changed, preferably in spring.
