What are the cultivation methods and precautions of Crab Orchid?

Introduction of Crab Orchid

Crab orchid is a plant of the Cactaceae family. It is thornless and has many branches. The flowers are mainly solitary at the top of the branches. The flowering period is from October to February of the following year. The main method of reproduction is cuttings.

Cultivation method of crab orchid

Crab orchid likes a warm, humid, well-ventilated semi-shady environment. It has poor cold resistance and is best moved indoors in winter. The temperature needs to be above 10 degrees. The suitable growth temperature is between 20-25 degrees. It is suitable for planting in a loose, organic-rich, well-drained and breathable substrate. It is a sun-loving plant and requires sufficient light and shade in summer.

Watering method

In winter and spring, the crab orchid can be watered every 7-10 days. Watering should follow the principle of not watering unless the soil is dry and watering thoroughly. In summer, it enters a dormant period and should be watered less often. You can spray water appropriately. In autumn, you should water more to ensure sufficient moisture.

Fertilization method

After flowering in March, Crab Orchid enters a dormant period, so fertilization should be stopped. Apply thin fertilizer every 15 days after new buds sprout. Be careful not to water the leaves. The potting soil needs to be changed every 2 years, and decomposed animal manure can be added to the soil to increase fertility.

Pruning methods

After the flowers of the crab orchid fade in spring, you need to trim the remaining flowers and flower stems, and also cut off the old leaves and dense stem nodes to increase ventilation and improve the ornamental value.

Precautions for breeding crab orchid

If the crab orchid is not properly maintained, diseases and pests will occur. It is necessary to strengthen ventilation, control light and temperature, and prune insect and diseased branches in time. Once diseases and pests appear, spray pesticides as soon as possible to reduce the spread of bacteria.
