What are the cultivation methods and precautions for osmanthus trees?

Osmanthus tree cultivation method

Osmanthus adapts to the climate of subtropical regions and prefers a warm and humid growing environment. It has a certain degree of resistance to high temperatures and cold temperatures. It can tolerate high temperatures of 33 degrees and low temperatures of minus 13 degrees. The suitable growth temperature is between 15 and 28 degrees.

During the growing season of osmanthus, water it frequently and keep the soil slightly moist, but not too moist, without any accumulation of water. In addition, ensure sufficient light.

Watering method

Osmanthus does not require much water, and the soil should not be too wet, especially waterlogging. If water accumulates at the roots, the leaves will fall off, causing the death of the entire plant. Generally, water it every 3-4 days in spring and autumn, once a day in summer, and every 7-10 days in winter.

Fertilization method

Base fertilizer can be applied when planting osmanthus trees, and fertilizer needs to be applied three times a year. Apply quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer in March to promote its growth and more tender shoots. Apply quick-acting phosphorus and potassium in July to improve its drought resistance. Apply organic fertilizer in October to improve its cold resistance and better overwintering.

Pruning methods

The main treatment for osmanthus trees is to shorten the branches that are not growing well. It is also necessary to trim the overgrown branches and diseased and insect-infested branches to improve the ventilation and light conditions of the plant, thin out the dense and overlapping branches and leaves, and promptly remove the suckers at the base of the trunk to reduce nutrient loss.

Precautions for Osmanthus Tree Cultivation

The soil temperature suitable for the rooting of osmanthus trees is between 25-28 degrees. In summer, it can be controlled by shading, arched plastic sheds, watering, ventilation and other methods. In high temperature and high humidity seasons, more diseases and insect pests are prone to occur, so you can spray carbendazim and methyl thiophanate as soon as possible.
