Planting methods and management of Chadian Rose-scented grapes

Rose-scented grapes are a mid-late maturing variety with firm flesh that is easy to transport and store, and are not prone to falling during transportation. The Mid-Autumn Festival every year is the season when rose-scented grapes mature. After the Mid-Autumn Festival, this delicacy is very rare, so it is very precious. Let’s talk about the planting methods and management of Chadian rose-scented grapes.

‌1. Planting environment selection

The planting of rose-scented grape seedlings should be carried out in agricultural production areas with good ecological conditions, far away from various pollution sources and with sustainable production capabilities.

2. Planting of seedlings

Planting time: In Beijing's Daxing area, grape planting is carried out in spring, generally from the end of March to the beginning of April. Plant the nutrient bag seedlings in early May.

Frame type and planting density: Use fences or small sheds for cultivation. The row spacing for fence cultivation is 2.5 meters, and the plant spacing is 1 to 1.5 meters. The row spacing for small shed cultivation is 4 meters, and the plant spacing is 0.8 to 1.0 meter.

Planting method: When cultivating in a fence, dig planting trenches in the north-south direction according to the row spacing, with a width and depth of 80 cm, and fill the trenches with straw, rotten organic fertilizer and topsoil. Soak the roots of the seedlings in clean water for 10-12 hours before planting, trim the roots, and then soak the roots in ABT rooting powder or naphthaleneacetic acid NAA solution. The planting depth should be based on the roots, necks and ground of the seedlings. When it is half filled, gently lift the seedlings, then fill it carefully, level it with the ground, and finally water it.

3. Shaping and pruning

Plastic surgery: Rose-scented grapes are shaped by single vine or less main vine fan shape, and small greenhouse cultivation adopts single main vine dragon trunk shape. For each hedge, only one main vine is left for pruning. In the year of planting, the plant is topped when it grows to about 0.8 meters to promote the growth of thick branches. When pruning in winter, extend the head shears to 0.4-0.5 meters in length and cut to a thickness of more than 8 mm. The same pruning standards are continued in the second year, and the tree enters the peak fruit-bearing period in the third year.

4. Winter pruning

The rose-scented grape seedlings are pruned with a mixture of medium and short tips, generally leaving 3-4 buds as fruit branches.

5. Thinning flowers and fruits

Rose-scented grapes have a strong ability to bear fruit, but are prone to excessive fruit set, late ripening, and reduced fruit quality. The amount of fruit should be determined based on local soil and climate conditions, tree age, growth potential, and cultivation management level, and measures such as thinning flower spikes, pinching spike tips, and removing secondary spikes should be taken to control the number of fruits.

6. Fertilization and irrigation

Organic fertilizer is mainly used for fertilizing pollution-free grape nurseries. It is strictly forbidden to apply little or no fertilizer. Nitrogen fertilizer is mainly used in the early stage of growth, boron fertilizer is sprayed during the flowering period, and phosphorus, potassium, calcium fertilizers and various compound fertilizers are added in the middle and late stages. Apply base fertilizer immediately after the fruit is harvested in autumn. Dig a 0.3-0.4 meter deep trench 0.5 meter away from the planting row and bury decomposed organic fertilizer. Top dressing includes germination fertilizer, flowering fertilizer, fruit-promoting fertilizer and ripening fertilizer.

Through the above steps and management measures, the yield and quality of Muscat grapes can be effectively improved to ensure that they meet the best standards for consumption and winemaking.
