How to save seeds of pansy

How to save seeds of pansy

Where do pansy seeds come from?

Pansy is a perennial herb. It will produce a large number of fruits after the flowering season every year. The fruits contain a large number of seeds and need to be harvested in time because they will fall off with the fruits after they are ripe. Loose and breathable soil is needed when planting so that the seeds can germinate faster.

How to save pansy seeds

After pansies bloom, they need to be harvested immediately when the fruits are ripe. Otherwise, they will crack due to long-term sunlight exposure, causing the seeds to pop out and scatter, so they must be harvested in time.

Pansy keeps its own seeds

You can keep the seeds of pansies, but the seeds must be dried after harvesting so that they can be preserved. Otherwise, they will easily rot and affect their growth.

Pansy collecting seeds

When collecting pansy seeds, it is usually after flowering and when the fruit is ripe, when the color changes from green to reddish brown. This means that the seeds are ripe and can be harvested immediately. Otherwise, the fruit will burst and the seeds cannot be collected.

Pansy Seed Preservation and Storage

Pansy seeds can be stored for 2-years. When harvesting, they need to be placed in a plastic bag. There are three ways to store them:

The first is dry storage. After the seeds are dried, remove impurities and put them in a plastic bag. Be careful not to seal it.

The second is sand storage, which involves storing it in low-temperature sand;

The third type is water storage, and the water temperature should be maintained at around 5 degrees.
