Green beans are a common vegetable and are widely popular for their freshness, deliciousness and rich nutrition. Moreover, beans have a well-developed root system and can grow all year round. They have strong adaptability and high temperature resistance, and have broad prospects for cultivation. So what are the beans planting techniques and planting times ? Let’s learn more about it below. Bean planting time The planting time of beans varies depending on factors such as region and climate, but generally speaking, spring is the best time to plant beans. In the southern regions, the temperature warms up early in spring, which is suitable for the growth of beans, so they can be planted between February and April. In the northern regions, since the temperature rises slowly in spring, it is recommended to plant between April and May. Bean planting technology 1. Site selection and land preparation Green beans prefer warm, humid, well-drained, fertile and loose soil. After selecting the plot of land, deep plowing is carried out with a plowing depth of about 30 cm to break up the soil and remove weeds and residual roots. At the same time, apply an appropriate amount of organic fertilizer or cake fertilizer as base fertilizer. 2. Seed treatment Before sowing, the seeds are screened and disinfected to remove pests and diseases and poor quality seeds. Soak the seeds in 3% potassium permanganate solution for 10 minutes and then dry them. Wrap the seeds with wet cloth or wet sand and place them in a warm and humid place for germination until white embryos appear. 3. Sowing method Beans are generally sown by broadcasting and hole sowing. When broadcasting, spread the seeds evenly on the soil surface and then lightly pat the soil to make it firm; when sowing in holes, first dig small holes, place the seeds in the holes and then cover them with soil. 4. Field management (1) Watering: Beans need an appropriate amount of water to grow, but avoid overwatering. Water the beans once a week after they begin to sprout. (2) Fertilization: Beans have a long growing period and require appropriate fertilization to ensure their nutritional supply. Nitrogen fertilizer can be used in the early growth stage, compound fertilizer can be used in the middle stage, and organic fertilizer can be used in the harvest period. (3) Weeding: Beans are relatively sensitive plants and competition with weeds for nutrients should be avoided. The frequency of weeding should be adjusted according to actual conditions. 5. Pest and disease control Beans are usually susceptible to diseases and pests such as rust, anthracnose, aphids, and bean borer. Pay attention to strengthening field management and take preventive measures. If necessary, spray control with pesticides such as oxycarboxin, sulfur suspension, thiophanate-methyl, trichlorfon, and cypermethrin. In general, beans are highly adaptable and are not very demanding on the sowing time, but spring sowing is most suitable. In addition, management of watering, fertilizing, weeding, and pest and disease control should be done well to ensure the healthy growth and harvest of beans.
