How to prune potted osmanthus

How to prune the branches of potted osmanthus

Time: Potted osmanthus is best pruned in spring, and March is the most suitable month for pruning.

When growing osmanthus potted plants from seedlings, you should select a main trunk. When the plant exceeds a certain height, it needs to be topped to promote the sprouting of side branches. During the growth period, cut off diseased and dead branches, overly dense branches, and weak branches, and appropriately shorten the branches that grow crooked or develop uncoordinatedly. If any overgrown branches, branches inappropriately positioned, or messy branches are found, they should all be cut off to promote ventilation and light transmission.

When pruning osmanthus and shaping it, you can prune it according to the height you need. Generally, the height of potted plants with high ornamental value will not exceed 80 cm. The main trunk can be shortened to allow more branches to grow around the trunk to achieve a better ornamental effect.

Tips for pruning potted osmanthus

For potted osmanthus, the larger branches need to be cut off, leaving some small branches. If the branches grow relatively thin, I need to prune them appropriately, retain some beneficial branches, and cut off some bad branches, so that nutrients can be concentrated.

Pruning potted osmanthus makes it grow faster

Keep the healthy branches and prune the branches that are not growing well. If the branches and leaves are very dense, they need to be pruned away to make the branches grow outward as much as possible.

Pruning and flowering of potted osmanthus

Potted osmanthus needs appropriate pruning, and the branches should be in different directions. Only one branch should be kept in the same direction to make them evenly distributed, increase the light transmittance of the plant, and promote the differentiation of the plant's flower buds, thereby promoting flowering and prolonging the flowering period.

Precautions for pruning potted osmanthus

After pruning, the potted osmanthus needs to be watered thoroughly, and it needs to be maintained when the soil is dry and wet. Do not water it too much, otherwise it will cause root rot. Add some phosphorus fertilizer and nitrogen fertilizer in appropriate amounts to promote flowering and new branches. The principle of fertilization is to apply thin fertilizers frequently. You can also use some organic fertilizers and add some to the water every time you water.
