How to propagate mugwort and what to pay attention to

How to propagate wormwood

The propagation methods of mugwort include seed propagation, rhizome propagation, and division propagation. Its seeds can be propagated, and its natural reproduction method is also seed propagation. Generally speaking, division is the fastest way for mugwort to propagate.

Mugwort breeding time

Mugwort generally reproduces in spring, which is the period of vigorous growth of the plant. It mainly reproduces through rhizomes. After reproduction, the plants can survive as soon as possible and have a high survival rate.

How to propagate mugwort

Propagation of Artemisia argyi by division

Mugwort has a strong ability to tiller. In March and April every year, when the seedlings grown from the rhizomes are 15-20 cm tall, they can be dug and planted when the soil is moist, after rain or watering. If there is no precipitation within 2-3 days after cultivation, watering is needed in time.

Propagation of Artemisia argyi by cuttings

Rhizome propagation is generally carried out in early spring. Dig up perennial underground rhizomes, then select the tenderer rhizomes, cut them into 10-12 cm long, and leave them for half a day to dry the wounds. Before propagation, dig trenches first, place the rhizomes flat in the trenches, and then cover them with soil to suppress them. If the soil is relatively dry, water them in time after planting.

Propagation of Artemisia argyi by sowing

The sowing and propagation of mugwort should be carried out in early spring. Sow the seeds directly on the soil surface. The soil covering should not be too thick after sowing, 0.5 cm is appropriate. If the soil covering is too thick, it will be difficult for the seeds to germinate.

Precautions for propagation of mugwort

The soil for the reproduction of mugwort is generally required to be fertile and well permeable. After reproduction, watering should be appropriate, not too much or too little. Ensure sufficient light, shade in time in summer, apply base fertilizer before sowing, and apply fertilizer every time you harvest.
