When and how to change the soil of Chinese evergreen

Time to change soil for Chinese evergreen

The recommended time to repot the Chinese evergreen is spring and autumn. If you choose to repot in summer, the temperature is high and the plant's roots will easily rot. If you choose to repot in winter, the temperature is very low, which is also not conducive to root growth and the plant is likely to be frostbitten.

How to change the pot and soil of Chinese evergreen

1. Select a pot and pad the pot : First, you need to choose a new pot for the Chinese evergreen plant, and use a few pieces of broken potting pieces to pad the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot, with the concave side of the broken potting pieces facing down. Generally, 3 to 4 pieces of broken potting pieces are enough, not too many.

2. Remove the plant from the pot : Remove the plant from the pot means pouring the evergreen plant out of the original pot. However, before removing it from the pot, do not water it. It must be kept relatively dry. Then hold it with one hand and knock on the edge of the pot with the other hand to allow the plant and the soil ball to come out smoothly.

3. Root pruning : After the Chinese evergreen is removed from the pot, the excess soil ball needs to be cleaned up, and the older roots or diseased roots need to be trimmed off. If new white roots grow, they can be retained intact and the plant can be potted up finally.

Precautions for changing soil for Chinese evergreen

1. When changing the soil of the Chinese evergreen, you need to pay attention to watering it with enough water until it flows out from the bottom of the hole, then shade it and put it in a ventilated place for maintenance. It also needs sufficient sunlight during normal maintenance.

2. The plant of Chinese evergreen likes to drain sandy loam that is breathable, good and rich in organic matter. This kind of soil can be mixed by loam, fine sand, river mud and coal slag.

3. To apply base fertilizer to the Chinese evergreen, you need to mix decomposed organic fertilizer, such as chicken manure, manure, or slow-release fertilizer with all elements into the soil during the process of potting or repotting.

Maintenance method of Chinese evergreen after changing soil

1. Temperature : The suitable growth temperature for Chinese evergreen is about 25 degrees, and the lowest cannot be lower than 10 degrees. It also has relatively high requirements for air humidity. It can usually be placed in a semi-shaded environment for maintenance.

2. Light : Chinese evergreen is a shade-loving plant. You can expose the plant to the sun during planting, but you cannot expose the plant to the sun frequently. Especially after changing the soil, it is not recommended to keep the Chinese evergreen in the sun.

3. Soil : The cultivation medium of Chinese evergreen requires good water retention. It is best to choose an organic medium. Moreover, the water content of the cultivation medium should not be too much. Mixed soil is better.

4. Watering : After changing the soil of the evergreen plant, the soil needs to be watered thoroughly. Watering should be done in moderation. Generally, watering should be done when the soil is relatively dry.

5. Yellowing leaves : The leaves of the evergreen plant turn yellow after the soil is changed. This is caused by over-watering. It is not advisable to water it too wetly. Keep the soil in the pot dry before watering to avoid symptoms of yellow leaves and root rot. Usually place it in a sunny and ventilated place indoors to facilitate its photosynthesis and reduce yellow leaves.
