When is the best time to take cuttings of Begonia

Begonia cutting time

Begonia cuttings are generally carried out between April and May in spring and September and October in autumn. The temperature is suitable at this time and the survival rate will be higher. Be careful to avoid the hot summer because the plant is in a dormant stage and its vitality is weak.

Begonia cutting method and steps

1. Select the cuttings

When taking cuttings of crabapple, generally choose a healthy plant as the mother plant, cut a 5-6cm healthy branch with at least 2 buds on it, and cut the lower end of the cutting into a horseshoe shape.

2. Choose the matrix

Before cutting, you need to prepare a suitable substrate for the plant. It is best to use river sand. Be sure to clean it before use and disinfect it properly.

3. Take cuttings

Insert the processed branches into the substrate to a depth of about one-third. After completion, place them in a cool environment for maintenance.

Maintenance matters after cutting of Begonia

Begonia flowers like warmth and are slightly cold-resistant. After cuttings, it is best to control the ambient temperature between 15-28℃. During this period, attention should be paid to the ventilation of the environment. If planted in the open field, they can also survive the winter outdoors, but the ambient temperature should be above 0℃.
