Milan Introduction

Milan is a plant of the genus Milan of the Meliaceae family, also known as tree orchid, fish orchid, etc. It blooms most profusely in summer and autumn.

The main propagation methods of Milan are cutting and layering. The main varieties are small-leaf Milan, four-season Milan and Taiwan Milan.

Potted Milan cultivation method

Potted Milan likes warm and humid environment and sunlight, but is not resistant to strong light and is very sensitive to low temperatures. A short period of sub-zero temperatures can cause the whole plant to die. When the temperature is 25 degrees, it grows vigorously and is suitable for planting in fertile, loose, humus-rich slightly acidic sandy soil.

Watering method

When planting Milan in a pot, the soil needs to be kept moist. The soil in the pot should not be too wet or too dry. When the air is dry, a higher air humidity should be maintained. It is best to spray water on the leaves 1-2 times a day. The plant requires less water in winter, so try to water it as little as possible.

Fertilization method

Milan grows vigorously and needs sufficient fertilizer. During the growth period, it is better to use decomposed cake fertilizer or sesame paste residue water as topdressing. Fertilization should follow the principle of applying thin fertilizers frequently. Do not apply concentrated fertilizers. Topdressing should be applied once every 7-10 days. A small amount of superphosphate can be added to the fertilizer water to improve the quality of the flowers.

Pruning methods

During the growth period of potted Milan, yellow leaves need to be removed in time, and diseased, weak, and old branches and leaves can also be pruned off to reduce nutrient loss. Pruning the remaining flowers after the flowering period can promote the next flowering and enhance the overall ornamental value.

Precautions for potted Milan cultivation

Stem rot is prone to occur on the stems of potted Milan, which starts as small black spots and then expands into dark brown. In the early stage of the disease, Bordeaux liquid can be applied to the branches and trunks, or lime mixture or topsoil can be applied, which are also effective. Remove diseased leaves in time, burn them in a concentrated manner, pay attention to ventilation, apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and improve disease resistance.
