How to grow water lilies and precautions

Growth habits of water lilies

Water lilies prefer a warm, sunny and well-ventilated environment. Temperatures above 15 degrees and below 32 degrees are suitable for their growth. They usually open in the morning and close at night. They have a wide adaptability to soil and can grow normally in any pH range of 6-8. The optimum water depth is 25-30 cm.

Light requirements: Water lilies love sunlight very much and need to be placed in sufficient sunlight. If grown in pots or tanks at home, they need to be placed in full sunlight. If the light is very strong in summer, shade is needed.

Water lily cultivation method

When planting water lilies, you need to use fertile soil, such as pond mud or silt. When maintaining it, it should be placed in a full-light environment, not too dark. When fertilizing, apply the fertilizer to the mud, do not sprinkle it directly into the water. If aphids or leaf-eating pests appear, rinse them with water or catch them clean. In summer, there are mosquito larvae and mosquito larvae, and you can raise small fish in the water.

Watering water lilies: Water lilies are generally planted in soil and filled with a certain amount of water. They do not need to be watered at normal times. There is no limit on the time to change the water. It is best to use a plastic tube to suck out the impurities at the bottom, and then change the water by about one-third. The amount of water added each time should not be too much, and should not cover the stem of the water lily. The leaves cannot be soaked in water. When the temperature is high, change the water every 20 days or so.

Fertilizing water lilies: Solid fertilizers, such as bone meal or cake fertilizer, can be applied to the soil of water lilies. If topdressing is required during the growth period, granular fertilizers can be purchased from stores. These fertilizers have a long-lasting effect and are less likely to be damaged by fertilizers.

Water lily cuttings: Water lilies can be cut in spring and autumn. Choose strong leaves, invert the leaves and separate them from the mother plant, with the petiole touching the water surface. Wait until the adventitious buds in the middle grow up before picking them. The soil can be field soil or clay soil, and a small amount of base fertilizer can be applied for planting.

Precautions for water lily maintenance

After the water lily blooms, the withered flowers and leaves need to be trimmed to reduce the loss of nutrients and affect its ornamental value. After a year of growth and consumption, the nutrients in the soil have been consumed, so the soil must be changed every year. Changing the soil can provide it with more nutrients and promote its growth.
