Buckwheat Growth Environment Conditions and Requirements

Buckwheat is an annual herb with an upright stem. It mostly grows on wastelands and roadsides. It is not drought-resistant or wind-resistant and generally prefers to grow in a cool and humid environment. It has a relatively large demand for light. Generally, the stronger the photosynthesis, the higher the yield.

Buckwheat likes a warm environment. When it grows, the seeds will germinate when the temperature is above 16 degrees. The best temperature for buckwheat to bloom is between 26 and 30 degrees. Buckwheat is afraid of freezing. Generally, the plant will die when the ambient temperature drops to minus 2 degrees.

Buckwheat growth humidity

Buckwheat likes a humid environment and has a relatively large demand for water during its growth period. Generally, 800 cubic meters of water are consumed during the entire growth process of buckwheat. Frequent irrigation is required during the growth period to maintain normal growth.

Buckwheat growing soil

Buckwheat is relatively resistant to barrenness and has no very strict requirements on soil. It can grow in any soil. Generally, buckwheat is most suitable to be planted in loose, fertile, well-drained sandy soil. If the soil is more acidic or alkaline, it needs to be improved before use.

Buckwheat Growth Cycle and Process

Buckwheat is usually sown in spring from March to early May or in autumn from July to early August. Buckwheat has a very long flowering period, and the flowers usually bloom in August and September. The entire growth cycle of buckwheat is about 9 months. Generally, buckwheat planted in autumn can be harvested around May of the following year.
