Longan growth environment conditions and requirements

The fruit longan is native to southern China. It prefers a high temperature, high humidity and sufficient light growing environment. It has high requirements for temperature. It is a long-day sun-loving plant and also has a certain degree of cold resistance.

Longan growth temperature

Longan is a subtropical fruit. The most suitable growth temperature is 20-22℃. The plant also has a certain degree of cold resistance and will not be frozen to death in an environment of 0-4℃. Short-term low temperature is beneficial to the differentiation of flower buds of the plant.

Longan growth humidity

Longan prefers a humid climate environment. Except for the flowering period, the plant’s water demand is relatively large. The annual rainfall in the planting area should be around 1200-1600 mm.

Soil for growing longan

Longan does not have high requirements for soil and can grow normally in red sandy loam and clay. As long as the topsoil is deep and well-drained, the pH value of the soil should be between 5.4-6.5.

Longan growth cycle and process

The growth of longan goes through three stages: branch and leaf growth and development, flower bud differentiation, and fruit growth and development. Generally, longan blooms in May, bears fruit in June, and the fruit matures in July-August, but there are differences between different varieties.
