Environmental conditions and characteristics of reed growth

Environmental conditions and requirements for reed growth

For many years, aquatic or wet reeds have grown in irrigation ditches and swamps on river banks and are distributed all over the world. Reeds have average climate requirements and require mainly warm temperate and 15-degree environmental zones.

Reed growth temperature

The suitable temperature for reed growth is 15℃~28℃. It can withstand the low temperature of -15℃ in winter. Its growth will accelerate when the average annual temperature is 15℃-30℃. At this time, flocs will grow on the top of the reed.

Reed growth humidity

Water the reeds according to the season. Water is lost quickly in summer, so watering is more frequent. Spray water every 2-3 days. Follow the principle of "water thoroughly but not to the point of leaking", that is, water until water seeps out from the plate under the pot.

Reed growing soil

Reeds are not picky about soil, such as mountain mud, which is loose leaf mold with a pH value of 5.6, urban garbage soil with a pH value of 7.4, lake mud, which is organic-rich clay loam with a pH value of 6.5, and neutral sandy loam.

Reed growth cycle and process

In the Baiyangdian area of the North China Plain, the germination period of reed is early April, the leaf expansion period is early May, the growing period is early April to late July, the booting period is late July to early August, the heading period is early to late August, the flowering period is late August to early September, the seed maturity period is early October, and the leaf fall period is after the end of October. In other words, it can grow and mature in the same year it is planted.
