Water lily growing conditions

Water lilies like sunshine and need a growing environment with sufficient light to grow well. It also needs good ventilation. It generally grows in ponds and lakes and is often cultivated in park pools.

How to grow water lilies

To grow water lilies, you need to choose loam with high viscosity. If you grow it in water, you need to observe the changes in water quality. It likes to grow in the sun and needs to be given sufficient light. Fertilize it every one and a half months or two and a half months during the growing season to encourage it to bloom. It also needs to provide a temperature range of 25-30℃.

Watering the water lily

Water lily is an aquatic plant, so it needs water to grow but does not need frequent watering. Just add water appropriately. There is no fixed time interval for adding water. You can add water as long as the water level drops. Keep the water surface above the stem of the plant. If you change the water, change it every 20 days in the hot season, and change one-third of the water each time.

Water lily fertilization

When fertilizing water lilies, you should pay attention to small amounts and multiple times. Do not fertilize casually. The time for topdressing is generally 15 days before the peak flowering period, and then topdressing once every 15 days to promote more flowering, but not too much topdressing.

Water lily pest control

When black spot disease of water lily occurs, you can spray chlorothalonil for prevention and control. When brown spot disease occurs, remove the remaining leaves to reduce the source of disease. If the disease is serious, you can spray carbendazim or mancozeb for prevention and control.

How to grow water lily at home

1. Water: The water depth should be controlled between 30 and 50 centimeters, and the maximum depth should not exceed 60 centimeters. The water quality requirement should first be cleanliness, and the pH value should be between 6 and 7.

2. Humidity: The humidity of the growing environment of water lilies should be around 50%. If it is particularly dry, the humidity needs to be increased by spraying water.

3. Temperature: Water lilies like warmth, the best temperature is 22-26 degrees. In winter, it should be kept above 10 degrees to ensure that it will not be frostbitten. In summer, the temperature should not exceed 35 degrees to prevent sunburn.

4. Light: Water lilies prefer gentle light. Daily light is helpful for its growth and flowering, but in summer, strong light should be avoided. Too strong light will make its leaves turn black.

5. Fertilization: When fertilizing water lilies, various liquid fertilizers are generally used. Every time you change the water, you can drop a few drops into the water.

Precautions for water lily maintenance

1. Timely pruning

When the water lily finishes blooming, it will leave some withered flowers and leaves, which need to be cut off in time. If they are not cut off, they will not only increase the nutrient consumption of the plant, but also affect the ornamental effect.

2. Change the soil every year

The soil for water lilies needs to be changed once a year, because after a year of growth, the nutrients in the soil are basically consumed, and it is difficult to support the continued growth of the plants. Changing the soil can ensure that the plants have sufficient nutrients to grow.
