How to cultivate Daphne koreana at home

Farming methods

Temperature and light

Daphne odora prefers a warm and cool growing environment, likes shade and fears cold. Avoid direct sunlight, provide shade and adequate ventilation in summer. In winter, the plant should be moved to a sunny place indoors and the room temperature should be kept above 8℃.

Watering

Daphne odora likes moisture, so usually the soil in the pot should be kept neither too dry nor too wet. In summer, Daphne odora enters a semi-dormant state, so the amount of watering can be reduced appropriately.

soil

It is suitable to grow Daphne koreana in loose, fertile, well-drained acidic soil.

fertilizer

The main fertilizers for daphne are nitrogen fertilizer and potassium fertilizer, and the fertilizer liquid must be fully decomposed, and a small amount of black alum water must be added. Note that the fertilizer used for Daphne koreana should be light, and avoid using too thick fertilizer. Note that it is not advisable to apply fertilizer when the soil is too wet or the temperature is too high or too low. You can also apply some well-rotted manure before wintering.

Precautions

Daphne odora is relatively resistant to pruning. Usually, before it sprouts, the densely grown branches can be pruned away to leave some gaps to facilitate ventilation and light transmission. It is suitable to prune Daphne koreana after the flowers have faded. In addition to shortening the branches that have bloomed, you should also cut off overlapping branches, overcrowded branches, overgrown branches, diseased branches, etc. to ensure the beautiful shape of the plant.

The plant is usually repotted and the soil is changed every 2-3 years, usually after the flowers fade. When repotting, remove about 2/3 of the old soil and trim some of the excessively long fibrous roots. You can also combine repotting with appropriate root lifting.
