How to grow thyme

Thyme Growing Conditions

Thyme prefers warm and dry environment and is relatively light-loving. It is best to grow in a sunny place with sufficient sunlight. It is suitable for growing in loose and well-drained calcareous soil.

How to grow thyme

Thyme can be sown by sowing. Choose a clean, high-quality substrate. Before sowing, it needs to be fully moistened. Then choose healthy and plump seeds. It is best to sow by broadcasting. After sowing, it needs to be placed in a cool place and kept moist.

Watering thyme

Do not water the thyme pot unless the soil is dry. When watering, water thoroughly and try to keep the soil slightly dry. Do not make the soil too wet. Pay attention to timely drainage during the rainy season and the soil in the pot should be kept dry in winter.

Thyme Fertilization

Thyme needs to be topdressed with a thin layer of fertilizer every half a month in spring and autumn. Stop fertilizing in summer. If fertilizer is applied at this time, the plant's roots may rot and die. The plant's growth slows down in winter and requires very little fertilizer.

Thyme Pest and Disease Control

Thyme sometimes develops powdery mildew. You can use medicine in time and clean up the surrounding fallen leaves and debris in time. The probability of pests appearing is relatively small, so you can spray the medicine after they appear.

How to grow thyme at home

1. When growing thyme at home, plant it in loose, fertile, well-drained sandy soil, and provide it with a growing environment of about 20-25℃. It is best to grow it in a shaded place and allow it to receive sufficient light during the growing period. If the light is too strong, shading measures should be taken.

2. When watering thyme, water it thoroughly and do not make the soil too wet. The amount of watering should be controlled in winter. Apply thin fertilizer once every half a month during the growth period, and reduce the amount of fertilizer in winter.

Thyme maintenance precautions

If you want thyme to grow fast, pay attention to controlling the maintenance temperature between 20 and 25 degrees, and place it in a well-lit environment for growth. If there is insufficient light in the growing environment, it will limit the growth of thyme. The summer sun is relatively strong, so you should avoid direct strong light to avoid burns.
