How to grow banyan

Ficus indica growing conditions

Ficus microcarpa prefers a warm and humid growing environment. The suitable growth temperature is between 15-35 degrees, and not lower than 5 degrees in winter. It has a strong adaptability to light and likes a sunny environment. It is suitable for planting in fertile and moist acidic soil and is more resistant to water and humidity.

How to grow banyan

When growing Indian banyan, you need to give it plenty of sunlight, but not expose it to the sun for a long time. Provide sufficient water to keep the soil moist, but do not allow water to accumulate. If it is in a state of waterlogging for a long time, root rot will occur. In summer, you need to increase the amount of watering appropriately.

Watering the banyan tree

The growth of Indian banyan cannot be separated from water, so watering is necessary in a timely manner. The principle of watering when the soil is dry and moistening should be followed. The soil should be kept moist in spring, summer and autumn. In summer, when the temperature is higher, water can be given in the morning and evening. In winter, when the temperature is lower, the plant grows slowly. At this time, you must reduce watering the plant and keep the soil dry.

Fertilizing Ficus

Ficus microcarpa is a fertilizer-loving plant, and its vigorous growth depends on sufficient nutrients. Pay attention to the principle of applying thin fertilizers frequently. On the premise of applying sufficient base fertilizer, apply thin liquid fertilizer once every 15 days during the vigorous growth periods in spring and autumn, and apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers once before winter to improve cold resistance.

Banyan pest control

Common diseases of Indian banyan include anthracnose, leaf spot and gray mold, which can be controlled mainly by spraying with mancozeb. Insect pests include scale insects and thrips, which can be killed by spraying with omethoate emulsifiable concentrate.

How to grow banyan tree at home

The potting soil for Indian banyan can be prepared by mixing leaf mold, garden soil, river sand, and a small amount of base fertilizer. It grows vigorously in a high temperature and humid environment. During this period, sufficient nutrients should be provided, and liquid fertilizer or compound fertilizer should be applied once half a month. Watering and fertilizing should be controlled in late autumn to facilitate wintering.

Precautions for maintenance of banyan

Banyan tree likes strong sunlight and needs to be kept in the sun during its growth period. It is also tolerant to semi-shady environment and grows well indoors. Pinch the top of the plant when it is 50-80 cm tall to promote the sprouting of side branches and enhance its ornamental value.
