What are the ways to reproduce mirror grass?

Mirror grass propagation method: sowing

Flower lovers in Yunnan can propagate by sowing seeds. Mirror grass is native to Yunnan and Sichuan, and its seeds are most adapted to the humid environment like that in western Yunnan.

The seeds of mirror grass are small, so it is not suitable to be sown too deep, otherwise it will be difficult for the seedlings to emerge. In addition, do not water the seeds that have just been sown, so as to avoid washing away the tiny seeds and wasting your time waiting for spring.

How to propagate mirror grass: division

This method is relatively simple and easy. When more than three leaves grow on the newly sprouted side branches at the base of the stem or at the nodes, cut them off with the fibrous roots, smear the wound with ash, plant them in a pot with humus-rich soil, provide some shade, spray with clean water, and they will survive in about 10 days.

You can also use branches with tips to insert into the sand bed in spring and summer, use plastic film to keep it moist, and it will take about 10 days to take root at a temperature of about 20℃.

Mirror grass propagation method: cuttings

In late summer and early autumn, you can use a sharp knife to carefully peel off the tillers on the plant stems, plant them in clusters in a wet sand bed, place them in a cool place, maintain a high air humidity, and they will take root in half a month and can be potted after one month.

Leaf cuttings must be made using medium-coarse sandy soil that has been washed clean with clean water. River sand has good air permeability, is conducive to rooting, and does not rot. It can be carried out from September to April of the following year. The stems can also be cut into small sections of about 3 cm for cuttings.

Mirror grass seedlings grow slowly, but the survival rate of division and cuttings is high, so division and cuttings are generally used for reproduction. Patient flower lovers in Yunnan can take advantage of the suitable local environment to sow and propagate, which is a unique advantage!
