Let’s learn more about it below.

How many days does it take for cucumbers to sprout?

Under suitable temperature and humidity conditions, cucumber seeds generally take about 5-7 days to germinate after sowing. However, if the cucumber seeds are germinated before sowing, the germination time can be significantly shortened, and it usually only takes 3-5 days to germinate.

How to germinate cucumber seeds?

1. Seed selection and drying

Before planting, select suitable high-quality varieties, screen out seeds with full grains and uniform size, and place them in the sun for 1-2 days to increase seed activity. In order to ensure that the seeds are heated evenly, it is best to turn them over from time to time when drying them so that the seeds can fully absorb the heat.

2. Disinfection

Generally, you can soak the seeds in 55°C warm water for 10 minutes, stirring constantly to kill most of the pathogens on the seeds. You can also use 100 times formalin solution to soak for 15 minutes and then wash with water to prevent the solution from damaging the embryo.

3. Soak seeds in warm water

Put the dried seeds into 55℃-60℃ warm water and stir continuously for about 10 minutes. When the water temperature drops to 28℃-30℃, soak the seeds for 4-6 hours. After washing, germinate them.

4. Germination method

(1) Towel wrapping method: Wrap the soaked seeds with a wet towel and place them in an environment of 25-30℃ for germination. Check daily and keep the towel moist. The seeds will begin to germinate after about 24-48 hours.

(2) Wet paper towel method: Wrap the seeds in a wet paper towel and place them in an environment of about 25°C, keep them moist, and they will germinate in 1-2 days.

(3) Constant temperature germination: Germination is carried out at a temperature of 28℃-30℃. Germination will begin after 24 hours and will be basically complete in 2-3 days.

5. Notes

During the germination process, pay attention to maintaining appropriate temperature and humidity to avoid the seeds being affected by excessively high or low temperatures. Also pay attention to prevent the seeds from mold or rot. The germinated seeds should be sown as soon as possible to avoid affecting the germination rate and the growth of seedlings.

In general, the germination speed of cucumber seeds varies, but it usually takes about 5-7 days. If you want to speed up germination, you can consider germination treatment and ensure suitable temperature, humidity and soil conditions.
