How to grow dahlias in autumn

How to grow dahlias in autumn

1. Is autumn maintenance important?

For dahlias, autumn care is relatively important. Because it blooms in summer and autumn, and its flowering season is most intensive around September, the early maintenance method is related to the quality of flowering. By the end of autumn, the flowering period is basically over, and maintenance after flowering is also more important.

2. How to keep in autumn

1. Temperature: Specifically, around 20 degrees is most conducive to flowering. In early fall, ensure temperatures are conducive to good flowering quality. In late autumn, as the temperature gradually drops, maintaining a suitable temperature can prevent dahlias from being damaged by frost and lay a good foundation for a safe winter.

2. Water: Dahlias are not drought-tolerant, so in order to promote flowering, you must ensure adequate water supply. But it is afraid of waterlogging, so you can follow the principle of "water it when it is completely dry, and water it thoroughly when you do." However, in late autumn, the temperature will drop and the demand for water will decrease accordingly, so the amount of watering must also be adjusted.

3. Fertilizer: You can use fertilizer appropriately, once a week, using liquid fertilizer with lower concentration. However, there is basically no need for it in late autumn.

4. Light: Adequate light can help flowering. It is best to ensure sufficient diffuse light throughout the autumn, which can promote flowering in the early stage and help accumulate nutrients for the winter in the later stage.
