When does the lotus flower bloom?

Flowering period of lotus

The water lily usually blooms in June, but the specific flowering time varies depending on the variety, and the length of the flowering period of the water lily is also not fixed. Generally speaking, the flowering period is about 30 days.

Under suitable temperature and light conditions, it takes 50-60 days from sowing to flowering of lotus seeds in spring and 60-80 days in autumn.

How to make more flowers

A good growing environment can make the water lily grow faster, sufficient sunlight, enough light, fertile soil, sufficient space... none of them can be missing!

Plenty of sunlight

The flowering period of water lilies generally ranges from June to September, sometimes moving to midsummer, but there are also water lilies that bloom in early autumn. The flowering time varies depending on the temperature in different regions. Adequate sunlight is crucial, at least 5 hours a day, otherwise it will be difficult to bloom.

Sufficient temperature

The suitable flowering temperature for bowl lotus is above 20℃, and it can only bloom normally if it is kept within this range. You must have seen lotus flowers in ponds or lakes. They bloom when the temperature is relatively high. However, please note that bowl lotus flowers that are not often exposed to the sun should not be moved directly into the sun for exposure, as this can easily burn the leaves.

Fertile soil

If your water lily does not bloom, there may be something wrong with the soil. I suggest changing the soil. It is best to use garden soil, leaf mold, and pond mud together. The soil should be fertile but not too fertile. After changing the soil, you should also pay attention to fertilizing, and apply thin fertilizer frequently.

Plenty of space

Very few varieties of bowl lotus can grow well in small containers, and most varieties are suitable for growing in pots with a diameter of more than 25 cm and a depth of more than 20 cm . This allows the underground stems to stretch out and grow freely. Before the water lily blooms, add sufficient nutrient solution to the pot. If there are too many leaves, you can pick some off appropriately.

Plant lotus roots instead of seeds

It takes a long time for seeds to bloom, but it takes a long time for lotus root seeds to bloom. Friends who want to see the flowers sooner can plant lotus roots directly!

Variety reasons

If you have done all of the above and it still hasn't bloomed, then you can only say that you bought a fake. If the variety is not pure, it will not bloom no matter how hard you try.

Growing water lilies is easier said than done and requires carefulness, care and patience. Regardless of whether you succeed in the end or not, you can gain experience and learn knowledge from the attempt, and it is a happy experience to recall it.
