How to graft Christmas cactus with cactus

How to graft Christmas cactus with cactus

1. Choose rootstock and scion

Grafting is one of the commonly used methods of reproduction. The rootstock is generally chosen as cactus or Christmas cactus as scion. The scion should be one with a higher degree of lignification. Then prune, cutting off the tenderer and older leaves at the top, leaving a moderate amount.

2. Treatment of rootstock and scion

Sterilize the razor blade, then cut off a portion of the top of the rootstock flatly, and then cut off a quarter to a third of the lower half of the scion. It is best to succeed once and not repeat the process multiple times. After that, cut a "V"-shaped incision at the top of the rootstock, pinch the incision, insert the scion immediately, and pause for a moment so that the two parts can combine tightly.

3. Grafting multiple layers

When performing grafting, more than one layer can be grafted. Moreover, it is common to graft multiple layers depending on the specific height of the rootstock. However, it is not without moderation. Do not go beyond the middle of the rootstock, otherwise the entire rootstock will easily break.

4. Post-maintenance

After the grafting is completed, cover the entire thing with plastic film and place it in a cool place for maintenance. Water appropriately to ensure that the soil is slightly moist. After half a month, it will be able to survive. This method of reproduction allows for vigorous growth and generally flowering in the same year.
