How to propagate black leaf Guanyin lotus

How to propagate black leaf Guanyin lotus

The division propagation of black leaf Alocasia

This is the most commonly used method of propagation for black leaf Alocasia. Generally, when the temperature is high in spring and summer, especially in April and May , the mother plant should be taken out of the pot, divided along the separation of the tubers, and the daughter plants should be separated. Be as careful as possible to reduce damage to the root system, and then plant them in pots separately. If wounds are accidentally caused in the process of peeling the tubers, you can use sulfur powder for disinfection, or apply wood ash to prevent rot due to moisture during planting. It is best to cultivate it in leaf mold or sandy loam rich in organic matter, and it should be placed in a shady and humid environment for growth.

Leaf cutting propagation of black leaf Alocasia

Observe the growth of the mother plant, select a few dark green and healthier black-leaf Alocasia leaves, place them flat in the prepared nutrient soil, wait for a while, and when you find new leaf buds and roots begin to grow on the leaves, you can transfer the roots to the soil for subsequent normal cultivation.

Tissue Culture Propagation of Alocasia nigra

The leaves, petioles or tubers of the black-leaf Alocasia odora can be selected as explants. Cut the leaves into small pieces of about 5 square millimeters or cut the tubers, each with buds for inoculation, then disinfect them with alcohol and sterile water, and then cultivate them with nutrient solution. After the seedlings grow, they can be moved to a normal cultivation environment.

Seed propagation of black leaf Alocasia

Collect the required seeds from mature and flowering black-leaf Alocasia odora, place them in a warm and humid environment, and transplant them into potted plants after the seedlings grow. However, it is difficult to obtain Alocasia odora seeds, so this method is inconvenient to implement and has low feasibility.
