How to grow Chinese cabbage with high yield and quality?

Pakchoy , also known as small green cabbage, Shanghai green, and rubber cabbage, is one of the common vegetables in life. It is easy to plant, has a short growth cycle, and has high nutritional value, making it very popular among people. So how do we grow pakchoy to ensure high yield and quality? Let’s take a look below.

1. Choose the right planting time

Chinese cabbage has good adaptability and strong cold resistance. It can be planted all year round under protected conditions. However, it is generally planted in spring from March to May, or in autumn from August to October, when the temperature is suitable and the climatic conditions are good, which is conducive to the growth of Chinese cabbage. Chinese cabbage grows well and has the highest yield.

2. Fine Land Preparation and Fertilization

Chinese cabbage has a shallow root system and poor ability to absorb water and fertilizer. Be sure to choose a plot with fertile, loose, breathable soil and good water and fertilizer retention properties for planting, which will help improve its yield and quality. Before sowing, apply about 100 kilograms of high-nitrogen compound fertilizer per mu, and then deep plow and fine harrow the land to make the soil fine and flat. It is conducive to the sowing of Chinese cabbage.

3. Scientific sowing and management

Be sure to choose seeds that are free of pests and diseases and have full grains. In order to reduce the occurrence of pests and diseases, they should be dried and disinfected before sowing. Chinese cabbage is mostly planted by direct seeding. The seeds are evenly spread on the soil surface, then covered with a thin layer of soil, gently compacted and watered to accelerate the emergence of the seedlings.

4. Water and Fertilizer Management

Chinese cabbage has a short root system, poor ability to absorb water and fertilizer, and grows fast, so it requires regular watering and fertilization. During the growth and development process, once drought occurs in the field, it is necessary to water regularly to keep the soil moist. In combination with watering, 15 to 20 kilograms of urea should be applied per mu each time to meet the nutrient needs of seedling growth and development.

5. Pest and disease control

Chinese cabbage has relatively few diseases and pests and a short growing period, so prevention and comprehensive control measures should be adopted to control diseases and pests. Before sowing, treat the soil and seeds. During the growth period of seedlings, it is necessary to strengthen field management, carry out regular prevention, and promptly detect and deal with pests and diseases. A combination of biological control, physical control and chemical control can be used.

6. Harvest at the right time

When Chinese cabbage grows fast and the temperature is high in summer and autumn, it grows fast, usually about a month after sowing. It can be harvested immediately. The temperature is low in winter and spring, and the cabbage grows slowly. It usually takes about 50 days to harvest. When the seedlings grow to about 30 centimeters, they can be harvested. Harvesting should be done in sunny weather. Use a sharp knife to cut the cabbage from the roots to avoid damaging the leaves and roots. After harvesting, the Chinese cabbage should be cleaned and sorted before being put on the market for sale.

That’s it
