How to plant chrysanthemum

Chrysanthemum chrysanthemum is a common vegetable, also known as chrysanthemum. Chrysanthemum prefers cool climate and is not resistant to high temperature. The suitable temperature for its growth is about 20℃. It grows slowly below 12℃ and grows poorly above 29℃. Below, I will introduce the planting method of Chinese cabbage, let’s take a look.

1. Soil selection

Chrysanthemum is not very demanding on the soil, but sandy loam is preferred. It requires fertile soil, rich in organic matter, convenient irrigation and drainage, good water and fertilizer retention capacity, and slightly acidic soil is better. At the same time, continuous cropping with Asteraceae vegetable crops should be avoided.

2. Land preparation and fertilization

After selecting the land, it should be plowed and sufficient base fertilizer should be applied. Generally, organic fertilizer is used as the main fertilizer , such as well-rotted manure or farmyard manure. The amount used per mu can be between 1,500 kg and 2,000 kg. At the same time, an appropriate amount of compound fertilizer or chemical fertilizers such as diammonium phosphate can be added to provide sufficient nutrients.

3. Seed treatment

In order to improve the germination rate and uniformity of emergence, seeds can be treated before sowing. Soak the seeds in warm water for about 24 hours, take them out and let them dry slightly, then place them at 15-20℃ to germinate, and you can sow them when the seeds turn white.

4. Sowing time

Chrysanthemum is generally cultivated in the open field in spring and autumn. It can be sown in spring from February to April and in autumn from August to November. Before sowing, make sure the soil has adequate moisture. If the soil is dry, water it first.

5. Sowing method

It can be sown by broadcasting or in rows. When sowing, spread the seeds evenly on the bed surface, then gently rub it with a tool and cover it with a thin layer of soil. The soil should not be too thick to prevent the seedlings from emerging. When sowing in rows, make furrows on the bed surface in advance. The furrow depth should be 23 cm and the row spacing should be 10-15 cm. Sow the seeds evenly along the furrows and finally cover with soil.

6. Thinning and weeding

When the seedlings grow to have 2-3 true leaves, thinning should be carried out and weeds in the field should be removed. The spacing between plants in rows should be kept at an appropriate level for broadcast thinning, and the spacing between plants in row sowing should be controlled at 34 cm.

7. Watering management

Chrysanthemum cannot lack water during its growth period and the soil should be kept moist. However, for chrysanthemums sown in the rainy season, the moisture should be controlled when the seedlings are just unearthed to prevent the occurrence of damping-off disease. In the future, the fields should be kept moist at all times, and attention should be paid to preventing waterlogging and draining stagnant water when it rains.

8. Fertilization management

Top dressing is mainly with quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer. Generally, top dressing begins when the seedlings are 10-12 cm tall, and 20-25 kg of urea is used per mu. Apply the same amount of fertilizer after each harvest.

The above is the planting method of Chinese chrysanthemum. The general growth period of Chinese chrysanthemum is 40-50 days. When the plant is about 20 cm tall and has 12-13 true leaves, it can be harvested. If you want to harvest multiple times, you can use a knife to cut off the base of the main stem, leaving 2-3 cm. The cut tender stems and leaves can be bundled into small bundles of 0.5 kg for sale. Water the plants after harvesting and they can be harvested again after one month.
