How to cultivate lotus

How to cultivate lotus

1. Cultivation Methods

1. Seed seedling cultivation: First break the shell, grind the concave end of the seed during May and June, and soak the seeds for seedling cultivation. The water should not be turbid and needs to be changed in time. It will usually germinate in about 7 days and grow roots in about 15 days, and can be transplanted and cultivated.

2. Planting the lotus roots: The most suitable time is mid-March to April. Mix the potting mud into a paste before planting. When planting, insert the top of the lotus root along the edge of the pot at an angle of 20°. Do not let the tail of the lotus root enter the water. After planting, place it in the sun and water it sparingly.

2. Maintenance methods

1. Water quality: In the early stage of lotus growth, the water layer should be controlled at about 3cm and the water should not be too deep. If you use tap water, you need to dry it in the sun for 1-2 days before use. There must be enough water in the pot in summer and it cannot be lack of water.

2. Fertilizer: Usually, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are the main fertilizers, and a small amount of nitrogen fertilizer can also be applied. If the soil is relatively fertile, no fertilizer is required. Please note that the amount of fertilizer applied should not be too large.

3. Disease and pest control: Black spot disease, rot disease, aphids, etc. are prone to occur during maintenance. Take preventive measures in time after discovery. Black spot disease can be controlled with carbendazim or thiophanate-methyl, rot disease can be controlled with carbendazim, and aphids have strong reproductive capacity and need to be sprayed with DDT emulsion regularly.
