Geranium cutting propagation method

Geranium cutting propagation method

1. Choose cuttings

First, choose healthy branches with about 3 leaf nodes on the top. When cutting cuttings, cut them diagonally about 0.4 cm away from the previous leaf node, and make the cut smooth. Then cut off the leaves on the second node below together with the petiole, but leave two small leaves at the top.

2. Processing cuttings

After cuttings are cut, they should be placed in a cool place to dry for 2 hours before being used for cuttings.

3. Choose the matrix

Before cuttings, you must first prepare the cutting medium. Fine yellow sand is best. When placing it, you can put some rice-sized sand at the bottom of the pot to facilitate water flow, and then put some thicker fine sand on the top of the pot to facilitate drainage.

4. Take cuttings

Choose a good time for cuttings, usually May in spring and October in autumn is the best. Then, before cuttings, water the substrate thoroughly, then dig a hole on it, the depth of which should reach the height of the lower two sections of the cuttings. Then insert the cuttings and compact them with tools.

5. Proper lighting

After the cuttings are done, they should not be exposed to direct sunlight for the first half of the month. After that, they can be moved to a semi-shaded and semi-sunny place for maintenance, but the exposure to sunlight should not be too long, so that it can grow better.

6. Reasonable watering

After watering it thoroughly for the first time, you only need to spray water with a watering can at other times. Do not let the soil be too moist, as this will increase its survival rate.
