Money tree: water control and ventilation are both essential

1. Control water at the roots and spray water on the leaves to keep them moisturized

Water control means controlling watering. It is said that most money trees die due to root rot caused by overwatering, so don't water them too much. In summer, the water on the surface of flower pots evaporates quickly. Some flower lovers water their flowers as soon as they see the soil on the surface is dry, but they don’t realize that there is still moisture in the pots. Therefore, it is best to stick a chopstick in the pot, pull it up and check it every 2-3 days, and water it again when the chopstick is dry, and water it thoroughly.

The leaves evaporate a lot in summer and are prone to drying out. Sometimes, even if there is enough water in the pot, the leaves will droop. At this time, you need to spray water to keep them moist. Use a watering can to spray water around the leaves of the money tree. This will not only cool it down, but also make the leaves quicker to rejuvenate.

2. Improve ventilation to avoid root rot

The money tree likes ventilated environment the most. Places near balconies, windowsills, corridors, etc. in the home are not only ventilated but also have some scattered light, which are very suitable for growing money trees. If there is no ventilation, the water in the pot cannot evaporate in time and the roots will easily rot.

3. Apply fertilizer appropriately, and you can grow crops all over the house in one summer.

It is said that the money tree grows slowly, so you cannot miss the summer growing season and quickly add appropriate fertilizers, mainly nitrogen fertilizers: fermented rice water, bean cake water, or mix slow-release fertilizers, compound fertilizers, etc. into the soil. Adding fertilizer every half a month can lead to big changes in one summer!

4. Treatment of yellow leaves and rotten roots

If the money tree's leaves droop and turn yellow due to excessive watering and lack of ventilation. At this time, quickly pick off the yellow leaves, move the money tree to a ventilated place, stop watering, and wait for 3-5 days until the situation improves before watering normally.

If the situation does not improve after 3-5 days and the leaves continue to turn yellow, dig them out and have a look, as the roots may have rotted. Use a knife to cut off the rotten parts and soak them in carbendazim solution or potassium permanganate solution for 20 minutes to disinfect them.

After disinfection, put it directly into water for hydroponics. The water here should preferably be tap water that has been dried in the sun (dechlorinated). When hydroponically growing, you can add a little rooting powder or vitamin B or aspirin to accelerate rooting.

If you find it troublesome, you can also cut a thin branch for hydroponics. As long as it is a healthy, annual branch, the success rate of hydroponics will be very high.

Kalanchoe: Yours is dormant, while others are in full bloom!

1. Can Kalanchoe bloom during its dormant period?

When the temperature exceeds 35 degrees, Kalanchoe will enter a dormant period. However, some flower lovers’ Kalanchoe plants are blooming. What’s going on? The first thing is temperature. If you move the Kalanchoe into an air-conditioned room, or place it on a cool north balcony with a temperature around 23-30 degrees, the Kalanchoe will not enter a dormant period and will continue to grow normally.

Next is the light. Shorten the light time. It will be enough to receive 4 hours of light sunlight during the day. Put it in a cool place for the rest. In this way, the temperature difference between cold and hot is 8-10 degrees. The longevity plant will mistakenly think that the flowering period has arrived, so it will bloom!

Of course, if your Kalanchoe has entered its dormant period, don't bother with it. Learn how to spend the summer safely.

2. How to determine whether longevity is dormant

Most Kalanchoe plants will go dormant in July and August. If the growth rate of the Kalanchoe plant slows down significantly, and it does not grow, does not bloom, and its leaves are either turning yellow or black and rotten, it means it has gone dormant.

3. How do dormant longevity plants spend the summer?

If your Kalanchoe has gone dormant, start watering it less, move it to a cool and ventilated place, trim off all the yellow leaves, and reduce nutrient consumption. Don't fertilize or repot for now, wait until after September.

4. With a few cuts of Kalanchoe, one pot can become ten pots!

Kalanchoe tends to grow too tall during its dormant period, so flower lovers must pay attention to this problem and prune it quickly if it starts to grow too tall, otherwise it will be too late in autumn! Pruning should follow the principle of "remove two and leave four", that is, for a branch with 6 pairs of leaves, cut off 2 pairs of leaves at the top, leaving a stem with 4 pairs of leaves. The branch in the picture below has grown too long, so it is recommended to remove 3 pairs of leaves.

The pruned branches can be cut again, and you can do it now. Insert the flower branches in breathable sand, water them thoroughly, place them on a cool and ventilated north-facing windowsill, spray them with water every day to keep them moist, and they will take root in about 1-2 weeks.
