Origin: Southern Europe and North Africa

Nigella sativa is an annual herb, 35–60 cm tall. It blooms from June to July and has lacy bright green leaves and white or blue flowers surrounded by thread-like leaves called bracts. The fruiting period is August, and the fruit of black cumin is a spherical capsule. It is relatively cold-resistant, likes sunshine, and prefers loose and fertile soil. It is native to the Mediterranean region. Nigella sativa is primarily grown in gardens in North America.
