How to grow lupine

How to grow lupine

1. Breeding environment

1. Soil: For lupin cultivation, use well-drained, fertile soil. It has a relatively developed root system, is very drought-resistant, and is very suitable for sandy soil.

2. Light: It is best to give it a sunny growing environment. It is slightly shade-tolerant and can grow in a shaded environment for a short period of time. When the sunlight is strong in summer, provide shade for it.

3. Temperature: Lupine is not cold-resistant, and the temperature should be controlled above 5℃ in winter. If the temperature is too low, the leaves will be frozen and their normal growth will be affected.

2. Breeding Methods

1. Seeding propagation: Seeding is generally carried out in autumn, and the best time is September to October. You can use 72-hole or 128-hole sowing. The soil should be loose and breathable, with a germination temperature of 25°C and moist soil. The seeds will germinate in 7-10 days.

2. Propagation by cuttings: Cut 8-10 cm long branches that sprout in spring, and then insert them into a cold bed. The hot summer may cause death, so it is best to plant in spring.

3. Common pests and diseases

1. Diseases: Common diseases of lupin are powdery mildew and leaf spot. Powdery mildew often occurs in high temperature environments. Once discovered, the diseased leaves must be cleaned up immediately and sprayed with pesticides. Leaf spot disease can be controlled by spraying with carbendazim.

2. Pests: Common pests are mainly blind bugs and aphids, which should be sprayed with omethoate emulsion in time after discovery.
