How to deal with lilies after they bloom

How to deal with lilies after they bloom

1. Lily flowering period

Its flowering period is concentrated from July to October. By the end of October, most of its flowers have withered. After the flowers fade, they need careful care and treatment.

2. Post-flowering treatment

(1) Pruning after flowering: This is the most important step. It can not only avoid wasting nutrients, but also be beneficial to subsequent growth and flowering next year. First, cut off the remaining flowers to prevent them from consuming nutrients. In addition, you only need to leave about 20 to 30 centimeters on the ground. If the water supply is sufficient, you can leave more. Note that you should leave some of the leaves and not cut them all off.

(2) Reduce watering: When the flowers fade, the temperature will gradually drop, so the amount and frequency of watering should be reduced. In winter, water intake must be strictly controlled. You should also pay attention to the water you use. You can use rice water, which contains more nutrients.

(3) Normal fertilization: Fertilization should be carried out normally just after the flowers have withered. You can buy special nutrient solution and apply it about once a week. You can also use compound fertilizer, which is rich in nutrients, but you don’t need to apply it too often, once a month is enough. As we gradually enter winter, the nutrients needed will gradually decrease, so the amount of fertilizer can be reduced.

(4) Note: You don’t need to take care of the plant after it blooms, but never dig it out.
