What soil is best for growing succulents?

What soil is best for growing succulents?

1. Main soil

(1) Akadama: This is a good choice. It is slightly acidic and has good root anchoring ability. It is relatively high in nutrients and has good air permeability. It can be used alone without any other substances. However, be sure to repot the plant within two years, otherwise its air permeability will decrease. In addition, it will be more expensive.

(2) Kanuma soil: It is also slightly acidic and has good air permeability. However, in comparison, it contains fewer nutrients and can be used in combination with substances that increase nutrition.

(3) Peat soil: It is hard and breathable. It also contains a lot of nutrients and can be reused.

(4) Coal slag: This is a very economical choice. It is cheap, breathable, nutritious, and has good water retention.

(5) Sphagnum moss: It is clean and has strong plasticity. In the application of succulent landscaping, its role is irreplaceable. However, its price is relatively expensive.

2. Add water-retaining and breathable materials

(1) Vermiculite: It is good for water retention, air permeability, and has a beautiful appearance, but it is easy to break.

(2) Coarse sand: Although it does not contain nutrients, it is breathable and can be used in combination with other soils.

(3) Expanded clay: A small amount of expanded clay can be added to the soil, which makes it breathable.

3. Materials that increase nutrition

(1) Coconut bran: It is rich in nutrients and clean.

(2) Peanut shells: Very economical, and after rotting, they are equivalent to potash fertilizer.

(3) Rice husk: Its function is similar to that of peanut shell and it is also a potassium fertilizer.
